ISTVS Standards—2020

In 2019, the Standardization Committee of the International Society for Terrain-Vehicle Systems updated the ISTVS Standards originally published in 1968. The purpose of the ISTVS Standards to be aid investigators in the field of off-road operations so that better communication might result. A list of standard test procedures has also been added to the glossary.

Terms and procedures are grouped and presented in categories as follows:

  1. Terrain characteristics: Soils, Geometry, Vegetation

  2. Vehicle physical characteristics

  3. Vehicle performance characteristics

  4. Soil test devices associated with soil-vehicle tests

  5. Standard symbols

ISTVS Standards and glossary were published in our Journal of Terramechanics. ISTVS members receive online access to the full content of the journal and we are pleased to be able to share these important documents here for all members of the terrain-systems and terramechanics community.

We encourage their wide adoption and we also welcome suggestions for their further development.
